TEM-3 Sweep Diverter

TEM-3 Sweep Diverter

The TEM-3 Sweep Diverter is an important component of a naval mine-sweeping system used by minesweeper vessels. It forms part of the TEM-3 magnetic sweep equipment designed to detect and neutralize magnetic influence mines hidden beneath the sea.
The system employs a looped cable carrying high-voltage electrical current, which generates a strong magnetic field in the surrounding water. This artificial magnetic signature simulates the presence of a large ship, causing magnetic mines to activate safely away from friendly vessels.
Two sweep diverters are attached to the cable loop to maintain its position and stability underwater. While being towed by the ship, they generate the necessary hydrodynamic forces to keep the sweep system operating effectively at depths ranging from 5 to 13 meters.
The TEM-3 Sweep Diverter played a vital role in naval mine countermeasure operations, helping ensure safe navigation through waters threatened by underwater mines.
