Limbo Anti-Submarine Projectile

Limbo Anti-Submarine Projectile

The Limbo was a ship-launched anti-submarine weapon system developed to detect and destroy enemy submarines. Widely used by several navies during the Cold War era, it served as an important component of a warship’s anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability.
Unlike conventional naval guns, the Limbo launched specialized projectiles or depth charges into the sea ahead of the ship. These weapons were directed toward the estimated position of a submerged submarine, where they would detonate underwater, creating powerful shock waves capable of damaging or destroying the target.
The system worked in conjunction with sonar equipment, allowing operators to track enemy submarines and accurately deliver underwater attacks. Its effectiveness made it one of the most successful anti-submarine mortars of its time.
